Every impactful initiative is powered by passionate individuals, and Born Green Generation is no exception. At the core of this project is a team of professionals from diverse fields such as healthcare, sustainability, communication, education, and beyond brought together by a shared goal: to create safer, sustainable healthcare environments for future generations.

Born Green Generation isn’t just about reducing plastics and toxic chemicals in healthcare settings. We are aiming to enable healthcare professionals, families, and communities to take practical steps that ensure healthier beginnings for every child.

In this blog post, we’re proud to introduce a few members of the dedicated team behind the project at HCWH Europe.

Rosario Semenzato - Project Manager

Rosario Semenzato

Born Green Generation Project Manager

I am proud to work towards implementing circularity and sustainability practices within maternity and paediatric wards. I am motivated by the vision of promoting a safer and toxic-free healthcare sector, especially considering the significant implications this has in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life and for our environment. I am sure this project has the potential to reshape healthcare and create a lasting impact on future generations. In my role, I oversee the overall execution of the project, ensuring that we are on track with our planning, deliver on time, adapt fast and accordingly when necessary, and articulate effectively with our great partners.

Rachael Ward - Campaign Manager

Rachael Ward

Born Green Generation Campaign Manager

I develop and lead the campaign strategy to engage audiences and maximise the project’s impact. Personally, I feel connected to this mission; although I don’t have children, I want to ensure that future generations are born safely and free from harmful plastics and chemicals. It’s unjust that babies face exposure to toxins that can harm their long-term health, and I’m motivated every day to create a campaign that will drive meaningful change.

With a passion for the environment, I’ve dedicated my career to promoting a healthier planet. I focus on behaviour change and empowering communities with transparent, transformative information, enabling informed choices.

I’m grateful to work alongside like-minded people and communities to positively impact the world and leave a healthy planet for future generations.

Lia Volpatti - Circular Healthcare Projects Assistant

Lia Volpatti

Born Green Generation Project Assistant

I’m proud to be part of a passionate team. I support the project through research, communication, and coordination, applying my biomedical engineering background to the project’s technical and scientific aspects.

Inspired by our partners’ work, I’m motivated to develop tools and resources that help create healthier environments for future generations. I’m also excited to scale sustainable solutions to other organisations, amplifying our collective impact.

Driven by the vision of a more just and inclusive world, I’m proud to help protect vulnerable children and women. I believe small changes can lead to lasting impact, and I’m excited to contribute to a project making a real difference.

Josephine Frame - Interim Green Perinatal Officer

Josephine Frame

Interim Green Perinatal Officer

As a midwife, optimising the health and safety of pregnant people and their babies has always been central to my work. In recent years, I’ve focused on sustainability in healthcare, combining my passion for planetary health with childbearing practices. Joining Born Green Generation is a dream, especially with a team committed to creating a healthier world for future generations.

As the Green Perinatal Care Officer, I bring clinical expertise and serve as the primary contact for our clinical partners. My understanding of the challenges in adopting greener practices helps me set realistic goals. I also lead the development of tools to support new organisations in integrating the Born Green Generation into their care settings.

Romain Libaud - Communications Officer

Romain Libaud

Circular Healthcare Communications Officer

I’m proud to be part of Born Green Generation, the most ambitious project I’ve worked on. I’ve been with HCWH Europe since the initiative’s inception, helping shape its development, from brainstorming to creating the brand and website.

In my current role, I ensure our messaging and branding consistency and lead the digital communication strategy across social media, the website, and newsletters, driving impactful change and supporting our Campaign Manager to advance the initiative. With many around me starting families, I see the urgency of providing sustainable solutions for children and future generations.

Anastasiia Martynenko - Circular Economy Research and Training Coordinator

Anastasiia Martynenko

Circular Economy Research and Training Coordinator

As part of the Born Green Generation project, I coordinate research and training activities, strengthening HCWH Europe’s collaboration with academic and healthcare partners. I support the development of a circular economy course for healthcare students, teaching them about waste, toxicity, and solutions they can apply in their future careers.

As a parent, I understand the urgency of reducing waste and toxicity, especially considering the vulnerability of babies and children. I’m inspired to work alongside this dedicated team, believing education is key to driving meaningful change.

Tatiana De Wée - Circular Healthcare Programme Manager

Tatiana De Wée

Circular Healthcare Programme Manager

I oversee the implementation of different projects, such as Born Green Generation. I also support the team in managing external stakeholders and partners and give my input into everyday project tasks.

I’m thrilled to work with such a great team and all the parties involved. Born Green Generation paves the way to greener maternity and paediatric wards, a model that will serve as a reference point for other healthcare institutions.

A mission unites the Born Green Generation team: That everyone receives maternity and paediatric care free from exposure to toxic chemicals and unnecessary plastics – for better health and a healthier environment.
