For families and healthcare professionals alike, the brochure I am pregnant – How to protect yourself, your baby and your family against harmful chemicals, created by Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF), is an essential guide we’re excited to share as part of our mission to create safer environments for families during the first 1,000 days of life.
During pregnancy and early childhood, individuals are especially vulnerable to external factors, including exposure to hazardous chemicals. While common advice includes avoiding alcohol, cigarettes, and certain foods, many people are unaware that everyday items—like food packaging, cosmetics, cleaning agents, and textiles—may also pose health risks.
The brochure is available in German and English on WECF’s official page:
How to protect yourself, your baby and your family against harmful chemicals
Providing practical tips for reducing exposure to these chemicals, this guide encourages families to make informed choices in the absence of stronger regulations and serves as a guide for minimising health risks. It is particularly useful for parents and parents-to-be seeking safer practices, healthcare professionals (including midwives, gynaecologists, and maternity clinic staff), or public health organisations and daycare centres looking to raise awareness about reducing exposure to harmful substances.
